In the 14th century, the French Spaniels were bred from these two hunting dogs in the Middle Ages. After being loved by the royalty in the Middle Ages, this dog became extinct in the 20th century, and Father Fournier (a French Priest) helped revive them. James de Connick described wrote the first standard.
