Animal Crossing, a social simulation video game series, was created by Katsuya Eguchi and Hisashi Nogami and published by Nintendo.

Although initially released in 2001, five versions of the game have been released worldwide. Animal Crossing New Horizons was released worldwide on 20 March 2020.

The announcement for Animal Crossing New Horizons was made in September 2018 for Nintendo Direct and Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch. Within the first month of its release, the game managed to reach five million digital sales. The gameplay involves players building their Animal Crossing Island in New Horizons for their customizable characters. Building a good Animal Crossing Island with other players and completing daily tasks is essential to the game.

At present, there are 397 villagers in Animal Crossing New Horizons and 35 different species of animals on the Animal Crossing island. Villagers on the Animal Crossing Island have their own personality, and there are currently eight personality types in the Animal Crossing world, with four personality types for each gender. Male personality types are Cranky, Jock, Lazy, and Smug. Female personality types are Normal, Peppy, Snooty, and Uchi (Sisterly).
