Post the arrival of the American settlers this led to tensions about the future of the tribe as they were forced to leave and in many instances became victims of violence. Through this, Chief Seattle was influential as he maintained peace by arguing that resistance profited no one. He tried to understand and adapt to the culture of the settlers.
