Dasha

The name Dasha is Romansh in origin and the meaning of Dasha is ‘gift of God’. This name is a Romanian translation of the given names Darrio or Darya, also known in English as Dorothy. These are derived from the Persian word ‘dārayavahush’ meaning ‘possessing goodness’. This is formed from two roots: ‘dâraya’ meaning 'to possess' and ‘vahu’ meaning ‘good’. The name refers to God being kind and merciful. It also refers to somebody who is gentle and forgiving. There was famously a saint known as St. Dorothy, who was a Greek woman. She is the patron saint of brides, newlyweds, florists and gardeners. This is because all of the images and paintings of her show her in front of a fruit tree, carrying a basket of fruit.
