About the event

Be prepared for an evening of imaginative role play to see if you have what it takes to be an Elizabethan sailor and sleepover on the ship like the original crew.

Bring your own sleeping bags and hunker down for the night – tickets include a Tudor dinner and breakfast the following morning. Please note the minimum age for this event is six.

Kidadler Stephanie had an amazing time on board the Golden Hinde:

"We had an amazing overnight stay on the Golden Hinde, London Bridge. As soon as we changed into our costumes, we forgot the touristy hustle and bustle around the ship and were sent back in time. The character actors - the Master, the Master Gunner and the Barber Surgeon - were brilliant and brought history to life. There was educational story-telling mixed with jokes and games - it was just fab and time flew by.

At dinner we were served vegetable stew which was warming and surprisingly tasty for what it was. I was a little worried that my boy would not enjoy the food but he tucked in like he's never eaten anything different. The evening ended with a mocked-up cannon fight.

Sleeping on the ship was a little challenging. The floorboards seemed to get harder during the night and it was quite cold, despite being all wrapped up in our sleeping bags. The hot chocolate in the morning was just what we needed to warm up again. It was an unforgettable experience that I can recommend to anyone with kids 6+. Should you plan your overnight stay during the colder months of the year, take an extra jumper on top of the one you already plan on taking. Enjoy!"

We’ve just returned from the family sleepover on The Golden Hinde and we had the experience of a lifetime! From the moment we were greeted by the “crew” (a bunch of fantastic actors in period costume) who navigated us through every element of life onboard a Tudor sailing vessel, we were hooked. The pace was perfect as we moved between different areas of the ship and learnt from different crew members about the history of The Golden Hinde and all the different jobs on board the ship; from managing the crew’s ailments and illnesses, to navigating at sea, preparing the meals, tending to the various animals on board and firing the cannon in battle! Highlights include learning to sword fight (albeit with foam swords!) on deck at dusk, eating our meals in the ships dining quarters and getting to know the fellow family passengers, and bunking down for the night in our sleeping bags on deck. The kids learnt a huge amount and haven’t stopped talking about it since and have asked if we can go again! If you’re looking for a family experience to fire up imaginations and live long beyond the moment I’d really encourage you to pay The Golden Hinde a visit.

Staying aboard the Golden Hinde was an awesome experience for me and and my 6 year old son and was an experience we will cherish for years to come. We loved the opportunity to get out of our comfort zone, do something different, and experience living history. The highlights for my son were the amazing actors who interacted throughout the experience, exoeriencing hands on how to shoot a cannon and sword-fight plus having a sleepover on the ship. Since returning my son has been deep in imaginary play with Captain Drake, Queen Elizabeth I and the Spanish Armada, and he's been looking at maps and researching the number of guns of Spanish ships from the 17th century! This sleepover is an incredible way to get kids to engage with history, experience a taste of life on the high seas, and spend quality time in a challenging situation camping-out on a ship. Indeed we felt we got 100 hours of history, culture and traveling all packed into 1 awesome overnight stay!

It was great to spend the night on the Golden Hinde and a fantastic first sleepover experience for my son which was full of excitement from start to finish. The actors aboard the ship were so good that the line between reality and make-believe was totally blurred, and my took my son's imagination to a whole other level. The atmosphere that the crew created was fantastic and the highlight for my son was the sword-fighting on deck at dusk. I was really impressed by the food - a warming vegetable stew and bread for supper and a decent breakfast too. All in all this is a fantastic experience, right in the centre of London and great for children who love ships, pirates and history. Arriving at 5pm and finishing by 9am was the ideal length of time and my son has not stopped talking about it since!

I would highly recommend this for a day out. Lots of people on here have relatives visiting london and always ask where can i take them, well here is my place to go. Just mind your heads inside the ship as its very low.
