The term 'alkaline' describes the pH level of alkaline water.

A substance's pH level indicates its acidity or alkalinity. A pH of one indicates that something is exceedingly acidic; while it has a pH of 13, it is extremely alkaline. The pH level of seven is regarded as neutral pH.

Many health specialists believe that there is insufficient research to back various health claims made by consumers and merchants regarding alkaline water. The issue with alkaline water, according to many health specialists, is not its safety but rather the health claims made about it.

Fun Facts About Alkaline Water

Water comprises two elements, hydrogen and oxygen, and that's why it's known as H2O. Normal drinking water generally has a pH level lower than alkaline water. The pH of normal drinking water is usually about seven, whereas the pH of alkaline water is usually between eight and nine. Let's explore some other interesting facts about alkaline water:

  • An alkaline water bottle craze is currently sweeping the nation. Over time, alkaline water helps detoxify our bodies and aids in the treatment of health risks such as high blood pressure and acid reflux.
  • The pH of alkaline water is higher than that of typical tap water, and the acid in our bodies can be neutralized by alkaline water.
  • Alkaline water is said to be the healthiest option. This hydrogen water is the regular water that has been infused with extra molecular hydrogen, and it is also known as hydrogen-rich water or hydrogen-infused water.

Benefits And Risks Of Alkaline Water

The notion that alkaline water is therapeutic, curative, and capable of achieving ideal health appears to be founded on the premise that acidic characteristics in the body and blood are the source of health problems and must be neutralized. As a result, having more alkaline in your body will improve your health. Four primary minerals are found in alkaline water, all of which contribute to its extraordinary health benefits. They are given below-

  • Calcium: Calcium is necessary for bone health, as well as the proper functioning of the heart, muscles, and nerves in the body.
  • Magnesium: Aids in the conversion of food into energy and is required for over 300 metabolic reactions in the body
  • Sodium: Maintains blood pressure and volume while supporting nerve and muscle function and also helps control blood sugar (diabetes) in the body.
  • Potassium: is an electrolyte necessary for muscle function and helps digestion.
  • In the case of cancer treatment, health specialists say that tumors are acidic, and this acidity may aid tumor growth and survival. So they insist that consuming alkaline foods or drinking alkaline water instead of regular water can make a difference and assist in the prevention or treatment of cancer cells.
  • Some of the side effects and associated risks in drinking alkaline water is that a high alkalinity level in the body has been linked to gastrointestinal problems and skin irritations.
  • Furthermore, the body's natural pH level may become agitated, resulting in a disease known as metabolic alkalosis. Individuals may experience nausea, vomiting, hand tremors, confusion, and muscle twitching due to this illness.
  • It's not a good idea to consume alkaline water when having food. Because your stomach requires acid to function, and the alkaline water will stifle it. As a result, you should drink 30 minutes prior to eating and one and a half to two hours afterward.

The Preparation Process Of Alkaline Water

Alkalized water is thought to help your body absorb nutrients more rapidly, accelerate your metabolism, and lower acid in your bloodstream. Various ways to alkalize water are discussed below.

  • Determine your water's pH level: Check the pH level of your plain water both before and after alkalizing it. This will tell you how much of a change to your water you'll need to make. Water is a seven on the scale by nature, but pollutants in the water tend to tip the pH scale to the left (more acidic). Pure drinking water should have pH levels of 6.5-8.5.
  • Alkalize using baking soda: In a glass of water, dissolve the baking soda. The alkaline component of baking soda is high, and when baking soda is mixed with water, the alkaline characteristics of the water increase.
  • Alkalize using lemon: Lemons are anionic in nature. Fill a jar halfway with fresh water. Cut one lemon into pieces and place the lemon pieces in the water without pressing them down; simply place them in the water. Cover the water and set it aside at room temperature for 8-12 hours. Now you get your alkaline water.
When you drink lemon water, your body responds with the anionic qualities of the lemon, turning the water alkaline as it digests.

Uses Of Alkaline Water

In the case of pure water, carbonate, bicarbonate, or hydroxide chemicals are present in the soil or bedrock near groundwater sources, and they dissolve and flow with the water.

  • Proponents of alkaline water are believed to balance your body's pH, enhance energy, and prevent sickness. Alkaline water has become a popular home cure for preventing and treating acid reflux. Alkaline water, like antacids, has a high pH that neutralizes stomach acid.
  • Your body needs to work harder to keep its pH balanced when you drink a gallon of alkaline water every day, which means your body will create more gastric juices and digestive enzymes over time.
  • Although the benefits of alkaline water for babies have yet to be demonstrated, they have been discovered to assist toddlers in consuming more minerals, hence meeting their developing needs.
  • Compared to tap water, alkaline water is the best option for children. Alkaline water, unlike tap water, is cleaner, mineral-rich, and satiating.
  • Alkaline water has more benefits for water fasting than regular water because during water fasting the blood pH drops to unsafe levels and can lead to heartburn due to acid reflux. Therefore, taking alkaline water can raise blood pH under these conditions and also inactivates pepsin.
  • When you have renal disease, your kidneys have a harder time removing acid from your blood. As a result, drinking alkaline water and following a low-acid diet may assist persons with kidney illnesses in maintaining a healthy pH balance.
  • Urinary pH also has a significant impact on the production of many forms of kidney stones. The crystallization of calcium and phosphate-containing stones is favored by an alkaline urine pH.
