In 2006, he made his first screen appearance in 'Law & Order', although it was only one episode. At this time he also continued to perform on stage appearing in plays such as 'Wig Out' and 'The Whipping Man'. In 2008, Holland bagged his first film role in 'Sugar', a sports drama.
In 2011, he was cast as Julian Fitzgerald in 'Friends With Benefits' a sitcom on NBC. This is probably one of the few comic roles that his actor has played as he tends to do more dramatic roles.
Between 2014 and 2015 he featured in 'The Knick', a Cinemax series.
