Born Mary Cathleen Collins, Bo Derek changed to her current name when she married American actor, director and screenwriter John Derek. He was also known for helping her launch her career. Some of her best-known movies include '10' with Dudley Moore and Julie Andrews, A Change of Seasons with Anthony Hopkins and Tarzan, the Ape Man.
Bo Derek is a semi-retired film and television actress. Her first husband, John Derek, was responsible for launching her career with a romantic drama entitled 'Fantasies'. However, the movie was released many years later after Bo had already found fame as an actress. This was also the time she changed her name from Mary Cathleen Collins to Bo Derek as a combination of her stage name and her married name. John passed away in 1998 and after many years, in 2020, Bo married actor John Corbett.

Bo Derek was born to Paul Collins and Norma on November 20, 1956. She was named Mary Cathleen Collins at birth. Her parents later divorced and her mother remarried a stunt performer named Bobby Bass. Bo was one of four children with two sisters, Kelly and Kerry Collins and a brother named Colin Johnson Collins.
She attended Narbonne High School in California. Later, she transferred from Narbonne High School to George S. Patton Continuation School.
