He had two siblings, Charlie Gale and Randy Gale. His brother Charlie Gale created the screenplay for the film 'Ernest Scared Stupid'. He went to a public high school. He wrote his first comic book, 'The Green Vomit', while he was a youngster. He used spirit duplication to create the comic book. In addition, he co-founded a comic book club in St. Louis. Charlie and Bob also created a three-film amateur spoof of the Republic Pictures 'Commando Cody' serials. They made use of the character 'Commando Cus'.
