Brett Somers was born Audrey Dawn Johnston on July 11, 1924, in Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada. 
Other wise-known as Audrey Johnston, Brett Somers was a Canadian-American personality, singer, and actress. On September 15, 2007, Brett Somers passed away in Westport, Connecticut, US, when she was 83-year-old due to stomach or colon cancer.
The TV show star was one of the panelists of 'Match Game,' a television game show that ran from 1973 to 1982. Her recurring role opposite Jack Klugman, her husband, on the ABC sitcom 'The Odd Couple' as Blanche Madison had earned her a huge name and fame in the industry.
Born in Canada, Brett Somers grew up in Portland, Maine, and shifted to New York City when she was 18-year-old to become an actress. She settled in Greenwich Village, and her name Brett became popular from her lead role name in 'The Sun Also Rises' by Ernest Hemingway. 
Somers became her last name after she adopted her mother's last name. In 1955, she started her acting career on stage. She had also performed as a Canadian theater actress. The '70s game show actress also appeared in 'A Rage To Live' in 1965 and 'Bus Riley's Back In Town.' Somers was also seen in various television shows. She also played a character in the television show 'Battlestar Galactica.' Brett Somers was famous for playing versatile roles on different TV shows. She was also the part of the radio show called 'The Howard Stern Show.'

In 1973, the 'Match Game' actress played the role of receptionist named Gertie of the fictional character named Perry Mason on 'a short-lived revival of the classic television series in 'The New Perry Mason.' 
The 'Match Game' celebrity was known for performing different roles. Brett Somers was seen playing the character of Aunt Rose in 1973 in the fourth episode of 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show.' The episode's name was 'Rhoda's Sister Gets Married.'
In the 'Match Game' TV show, first, she used to sit in the lower left panelist section. However, later she occupied the upper tier and sat next to Charles Nelson Reilly. Earlier, she wasn't considered an important member of the celebrity panel. 
But in 1973, when Jack appeared in the show, he insisted the producers bring her abroad. After that, she was a panelist for almost ten years on the show. Also, 'The Seven Year Itch' and 'Ben Casey' star Somers, who played characters opposite actors including Betty White, Charles Nelson Reilly, Fannie Flagg, and Scotty Mitchell.  
In addition to this, she also appeared in different other shows like 'The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson' in 1962 and 'The Mike Douglas Show' in 1961.

Some rumors were doing the rounds where it was said that Somers was suffering from cancer. But in one of the interviews in 2002, she denied all these rumors. She had a husky voice which caused a misconception that Brett was suffering from some throat issues. 
However, later the reports were proved correct, and it was found that she was diagnosed with cancer in 2004. After undergoing treatment, she passed away in 2007. 
After her death, she was cremated at Memorial Garden in the Unitarian Church based in Westport, Connecticut.
