When playing against Arizona State, Orakpo was honored as Defensive MVP of the 2007 Holiday Bowl, with six tackles and two sacks against them.
In 2008, Brian Orakpo recorded 40 tackles and 11.5 sacks and was the winner of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. This trophy is given to the best defensive player in the league.
