Thayer was a renowned American banker, businessman, financial professional, and Tampa civic leader. He served in important positions in the banking sector.

He was the chief executive officer and board chairman of Bay Cities Bank. From 1969-1972, he was the vice president of Dominick & Dominick, Inc., New York. From 1974-1983 Thayer served as the executive vice president and chief financial officer of Lykes Brothers, Tampa, and was also the chair of their executive committee. Bronson Thayer took his last breath on December 24, 2016, at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, after battling cancer for several years.
