Buff Bagwell signed with World Championship Wrestling in 1991. There, he competed under his full name. He formed tag teams with Tom Zenk, 2 Cold Scorpio, The Patriot, and Scotty Riggs during the following five years. Buff Bagwell became the World Tag Team Champion four times.
Buff Bagwell and Scotty Riggs created 'The American Males.' The tag team beat State Patrol in their debut match on Saturday Night Live. The freshly formed combination won the World Tag Team Championship by defeating the Harlem Heat.
Bagwell joined the New World Order in November 1996 after turning on his colleague, Riggs. He changed his name to Buff Bagwell and created the 'Vicious and Delicious' tag team with Scott Norton. He adopted the practice of flexing his muscles and talking to the camera, disparaging his opponents while congratulating himself.
The famous wrestler also wrestled for New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) as a member of nWo Japan. When he returned to the United States, he started a rivalry with Lex Luger, which culminated in Bagwell's victory at Starrcade.
Bagwell battled Rick Steiner in a tag team match on Thunder in 1998. He won by disqualification when Scott Steiner intervened on his side. Rick tried his diving bulldog finishing technique just before that, but it was not done correctly. Bagwell's head collided with Steiner's back, locking his neck and seriously hurting him.
Bagwell was diagnosed with numerous injured vertebrae and got a spinal shock. This necessitated the use of a wheelchair and a neck brace for some time. He returned for an interview months later, only to be savagely mocked by Hollywood Hogan and pushed to the foyer floor.
Buff Bagwell, who used a wheelchair, returned to WCW in his home state of Georgia after undergoing neck surgery. Bagwell seemed to have a fresh mindset and even approached Rick Steiner to apologize. However, as another nWo member, Scott Steiner, was about to hit Rick with a steel chair, Bagwell stopped him. This proved his commitment to Hogan and the nWo. Bagwell then got out of his wheelchair and assisted Scott in defeating Rick.
Bagwell and Steiner sided with the nWo Wolfpac once the nWo divisions were established in January 1999. Bagwell unintentionally struck Steiner with a chair at 'Uncensored, 'losing him the World Television Championship.
Following his departure from the WWE, Buff Bagwell joined Jimmy Hart's newly formed X Wrestling Federation. Bagwell also toured Europe and Australia with the World Wrestling All-Stars.
Bagwell was one of the first celebrities to join the New Blood group, which was quite popular in the year 2000. He finished off veterans Flair and Luger as his respective dual opponents. Then he formed yet another tag team unit, this time with Shane Douglas.
He wrestled in the Inception pay-per-view in the fall of 2001. He won an open battle royal before losing in the semi-finals of the WWA World Heavyweight Championship tournament to Jeff Jarrett. He remained with the WWA until April 2002.
Buff Bagwell then appeared on the 'Eruption' pay-per-view. This time, he paired up with his WWA adversary Stevie Ray in an attempt to defeat Brian Christopher and Ernest Miller. In the fall of 2002, he visited the United Kingdom and appeared at the pay-per-view event' Retribution.' During this tour, he was often featured in the main event as part of a tag team bout with Sting, Lex Luger, and Nathan Jones.
