About Bunny DeBarge

Bunny DeBarge is an American musician who was born on March 10, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan.
Bunny DeBarge is the oldest of 10 children, all born to Etterlene Abney and Robert DeBarge, Sr. Her family relocated from Detroit when she was a teenager and settled in Grand Rapids.
After seeing her brothers Tommy and Bobby becoming successful musicians as members of Switch and reached musical stardom, Bunny joined forces with her other brothers El, Mark, and Randy to form DeBarge in 1979 their family band. The siblings signed with Motown after the demo tape was passed on by Switch to Motown CEO Gordy, who was wowed by them and then swiftly hired them.
DeBarge and her brothers worked behind the scenes of the group beginning in 1979 and continuing through 1981. Bunny often collaborated with her brother to compose music, Bobby on multiple songs such as 'Love Over And Over Again', 'My Friend In The Sky', and 'Hold Onto My Love'.
Bunny DeBarge in 1981 co-produced their debut album, which was self-titled. The album saw brother El as a lead vocalist and Bunny also shared the part as a lead vocal. The siblings wrote the song 'Share My World' together. In 1982, their brother James, who was merely a teenager then, was inducted into the band.
The siblings along with Bunny changed the band's name to just DeBarge. In 1982, they released a new album which was their second, named 'All This Love'. The DeBarge siblings found success in the music industry through the song 'I Like It'. Bunny DeBarge, Randy DeBarge, and El DeBarge wrote the lyrics.
Their third album was very successful, named 'In A Special Way' and it was released in 1983. Bunny displayed her finesse as a lyricist with the hit-single 'Time Will Reveal'. Two more Bunny-written ballads were also included in the album, as well as a few more highlights. In the song 'A Dream', Bunny had the lead vocals.
Bunny also started her solo career as her brother encouraged her to. In 1987, DeBarge released her solo album 'In Love' and the album did not garner the attention that was expected.
DeBarge established a GoFundMe campaign in March 2019 to raise funds for the publication of her second book. DeBarge mentioned that she is currently working on the sequel to 'The Kept Ones,' which she intends to complete before filming. Her brother's movie was released in June 2019 as well.
DeBarge with James DeBarge and El DeBarge found musical success during the '80s. The family of musicians saw great success throughout their prolific careers.
Gordy Records and Motown's subsidiary released El and Bunny DeBarge's material. 'The DeBarges', 'All This Love', 'In A Special Way', and 'Rhythm Of The Night' were just a few examples. El and Bunny's best-selling album, as well as their most successful single in the United States, was 'Rhythm of the Night' (Spot three on Billboard 100).
In 1980, El joined the group and aided them in attaining national recognition as a member of The DeBarge's. That year, El was able to perform live on the piano and sing for Motown CEO and founder Berry Gordy, who was charmed by the group and agreed to sign them that year due to Bobby's success with Switch.
After a couple of years watching her brothers Bobby and Tommy work in music as members of the band Switch, she teamed up with her three brothers Randy , Mark and El and became the DeBarges.
