Best Known For…

Charlotte Caffey began her music career in 1978 as a bass guitarist in the punk band 'The Eyes.' She then joined the Los Angeles-based American rock band 'The Go-Go's' as a lead guitarist and began playing gigs at nightclubs. The band consisted of Caffey (lead guitarist), Belinda Carlisle (lead vocalist), Jane Wiedlin (guitarist), Gina Schock, and Kathy Valentine. They frequently played in punk venues, including 'The Masque,' 'Whisky a Go Go,' and 'Mabuhay Gardens.' Due to personal conflicts, they disbanded in 1985. However, the California-born musician stayed in touch with the band's lead vocalist Belinda Carlisle and even wrote songs for Carlisle's solo albums.
In 1987, Caffey formed her own band 'The Graces,' an American pop-rock band, with Gia Ciambotti and Meredith Brooks. The band released an album, 'Perfect View' in 1989 and four singles. Of the four singles they released, their first, 'Lay Down Your Arms,' ranked No.56 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the rest failed to make the mark. The group disbanded in 1992.

Once again, Charlotte Caffey collaborated with Anna Waronker and co-wrote the book, lyrics, and music for 'Lovelace: A Rock Musical,' a rock musical about Linda Lovelace, in 2008. Lovelace was a women's liberation advocate that turned Caffey into a composer. The show debuted at the Heyworth Theatre, Los Angeles, in 2008 and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2010.
Several of 'The Go Go's' hit singles and Belinda Carlisle's solo singles were featured in the Broadway musical 'Head Over Heels,' a jukebox music comedy, which premiered in 2018.
Charlotte Caffey limited her regular performances and semi-retired in the late '80s due to carpal tunnel syndrome, which results in numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand.
'The Go-Go's' 11-day reunion was scheduled for May 2020, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the short West Coast tour scheduled for January 2022 was postponed.
In May 2021, 'The Go-Go's' was inducted into the 'Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame' by Drew Barrymore.
