A black belt in martial arts and a wonderful actress, Cynthia Ann Christine Rothrock has had a number of memorable roles in cinema throughout the years.

Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, Cynthia Rothrock started taking martial arts lessons at the early age of 13. She attained various titles in martial arts before making a career switch to acting.

In 1983, while on a demonstration for martial arts on the West Coast, Cynthia Rothrock was discovered by Golden Harvest, a distribution company in Los Angeles, California. Two years later, she made her silver screen debut in the movie 'Yes, Madam'. Even as she made her career change, she held on to her roots as a martial artist and took on many roles that showed off her fighting prowess. Cynthia Rothrock went on to star in a number of martial arts films in the Hong Kong film industry and later in Hollywood. Cynthia Ann Christine Markowski, better known as Cynthia Rothrock, was born in Wilmington, Delaware, on March 8, 1957. Her parents are Edward Markowski and Ann Markowski. She was raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and started training in martial arts when she was 13 years old.

Cynthia Rothrock won the World Championships in the weapons and forms category between 1981-1985. She won the first prize in formations 32 times and bagged the first position in weapons 12 times in her first 38 events as an American martial artist, counting three out of four times in men's forms due to the lack of a women's division at the time. She won four out of five fighting events as the Grand Master of five competitions.

Rothrock married her kung fu instructor and fellow American martial artist, Ernest Rothrock, at St. Mary's Church in the Greenwood area of Moosic, Pennsylvania, on September 25, 1976, when she was 19 years old. The marriage was short-lived, and they soon drifted apart. Ernest Rothrock and Cynthia Rothrock divorced a few years later. She has been unmarried since and is presumably single as of June 2022. Skylar Sophia Rothrock is the name of her daughter with her ex-husband.

Among other Far Eastern martial arts, she has black belts and sashes in Taekwondo (Korean), Tang Soo Do, Eagle Claw (Chinese), Northern Shaolin, Wushu, Pai Lum White Dragon Kung Fu, and Ng Ying Kungfu. In 2006, for her experience in Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan, she was awarded the sixth-degree black belt.

Grand Master and martial arts instructor Robert Kovaleski, head of the Institute of the Traditional Martial Arts, put her to the test and promoted her to seventh and eighth-degree black belts in 2011 and 2015, respectively. Rothrock's favorite arms are hook swords, and she is an instructor of martial arts. When she co-authored the book 'Advanced Dynamic Kicks' with actor George Chung in 1986, Rothrock was the first lady to be featured on the front page of a martial arts magazine.

After being discovered by the Golden Harvest Distribution Company, she debuted as an actress in the Hong Kong Film industry and soon rose to stardom among the locals. She has worked with a number of popular stars, including Michelle Yeoh. She starred in a number of films after her debut, such as 'The Asian Ghost Story'.

Cynthia Rothrock's migration to the United States was sparked by producer Pierre David. In Rothrock's debut American movie, 'Martial Law', David paired her with Chad McQueen. For the next ten years, Rothrock had a great career in B-movie action films.
