This also made her the longest-serving anchor at any television station in Connecticut. For her contribution to the world of journalism, she was honored by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She also received a scholarship from the American Newspaper Women's Club, which made her eligible to attend a journalism program over the summer.
Denise D'Ascenzo has been inducted into the Silver Circle as well as the Connecticut Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.

She had three sisters named Debbie, Diane, and Donna. She had always been passionate about journalism since childhood, when she was in grammar school.
At the age of 12, she initiated the first newspaper at her school and became her high school newspaper's editor-in-chief. She received a scholarship making her the first person ever to be awarded a scholarship from the American Newspaper Women's Club. She became a student at Medill School of Journalism for a program in journalism at Northwestern University. She attended Syracuse University and was a senior in 1980.

January 30, 2020, was declared Denise D'Ascenzo Day.

Denise D'Ascenzo worked for WFSB TV and WIXT TV during her career. During her time at Syracuse University, she got her first job at the television station, WSYR-TV in Syracuse. She had to do reports on the weather forecast. She graduated from Syracuse with great honor and praise with degrees in Political Science and Broadcast Journalism. She became a full-time reporter for the television station, WIXT.
Afterward, Denise also got the job of a talk show host and a reporter in St. Louis at the television station, KSDK. She then became the news anchor for the television station licensed to Cleveland, WJKW-TV.
From 1986-2019, she worked at the television station, WFSB-TV, which made her the longest-serving anchor at any television station in Connecticut.
