Deon Figures was drafted 23rd overall during the first round of the 1993 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he played from 1993 to 1996. He led the Pittsburgh Steelers to win the AFC Championship Game in front of the San Diego Chargers in 1994 as a part of the team. In 1997 and 1998, Deon Figures concluded his NFL profession along with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Figures appeared in 93 games in the NFL, starting 40 of them, and recording 269 tackles and four recovered fumbles, including nine interceptions.
Deon Figures played football for the Colorado Buffaloes from 1988 through 1992 while attending the University of Colorado in Boulder. In 1988, as a freshman, he appeared in 10 games and intercepted two passes opposed to the Iowa State Cyclones, a Buffalo freshman record. Figures secured the win in a non-conference game with the No. 12 Washington Huskies by intercepting the second ball of Huskies quarterback Mark Brunell during the last minute of the game.
The Buffaloes played the No. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish during the Orange Bowl following gaining the Big Eight Conference championship alongside a 7–0 conference schedule and a 10–1–1 career record. Figures famously caught a pass by Irish quarterback Rick Mirer with time running out to seal the Buffaloes' 10–9 triumph and a national championship of 1990.
Resisting Big Eight coaches were well conscious of Figures' defensive abilities by the beginning of the 1991 junior season and attempted to direct offensive plays ahead of him. Despite this, the Figures gathered 39 tackles and two interceptions and assisted the Buffaloes to succeed in a share of the 3rd straight Big Eight championship and another top-25 ranking.
