He set high school records as a star full-back American football player. 

After graduating from Troy High School, he earned a scholarship to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and graduated with a degree in Political Science.

He was also titled the second-best full-back player in the USA by the ESPN channel. He was also awarded three consecutive Tommy Prothro Awards and the Paul Wellman Memorial Award for being the best All Round Player in his college years.

In 2012, Coleman was selected by the Minnesota Vikings as a free agent. The Seattle Seahawks signed him as a player in December 2012. His maiden touchdown against the New Orleans Saints earned him huge fame. 

He is probably best remembered for participating in the Super Bowl XLVII with the Seattle Seahawks team. He joined the Atlanta Falcons on March 21, 2017, and achieved his first victory in September 2017 against the Chicago Bears. In May 2018, he joined the Arizona Cardinals.
