He started his career as a football player during his college days at Ohio State University, where he used to play as a cornerback in defense and halfback in the offense. After that, he was drafted into the National Football League by Cleveland Browns in 1959. Unfortunately, his name was removed during the training period from the team at the time of their training camp. Later he was drafted by the famous Detroit Lions and he continued there for the next 14 seasons.
Dick Lebeau retired as a player and started his career as a football coach with a special team coach at Philadelphia Eagles and worked there for three seasons.
He was then appointed for the Cincinnati Bengals as a secondary coach in 1980. He got his promotion to a defensive coordinator in 1984 for the team. In the first season, the team witnessed a notable drop in its defense rankings. In 1992, Lebeau was hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers as a secondary coach. He resigned from the Pittsburgh Steelers due to various criticisms and got hired by the Tennessee Titans and was also given the tag of the assistant head coach. He praised Brian Orakpo of the Titans as the best linebacker.
Again in 1997, he made his return to Cincinnati Bengals as a defensive coordinator. After his exit from Cincinnati Bengals, he was hired by the Buffalo Bills as their assistant head coach. Currently, he is retired and has a net worth of $1,500,000.
