Rhinorex condrupus dinosaurs were a huge terrestrial grazing dinosaur species that roamed the Earth during the later Cretaceous period, around 75-76 million years ago. They were a hadrosaur species that lived in North America. Terry Gates, with his companion, found Rhinorex remains in central Utah in 1992. Rhinorex (king nose) were big and heavy creatures that lived in groups. Their body length was around 29 ft 6 in (9 m), and their body weight was greater than 3 tons (2721.6 kg). The fossil remains of this dinosaur that was found was not complete. Their exact body structure can't be described but what we can assume is that they had a bulky body with a fat long tail. They had four pillar-like legs and a small skull. This hadrosaur species had a big nose, and a duck-billed mouth.

Rhinorex Interesting Facts

How do you pronounce 'Rhinorex'?

Rhinorex were a kritosaurin hadrosaur species that roamed the Earth during the Late Cretaceous period in the Mesozoic era. It is believed that they existed around 75 million years ago in the Neslen Formation. Rhinorex pronunciation is not tough or complex at all. It is pronounced as 'Rhi no rex'.

What type of dinosaur was a Rhinorex?

Rhinorex were herbivorous dinosaurs which existed in the Late Cretaceous period around 75 million years ago. They were in the tribe Kritosaurini and clade Ornithopoda. They belonged to the order Ornithischia, family Hadrosauridae, and genus Rhinorex. Their scientific name is Rhinorex condrupus.

In which geological period did the Rhinorex roam the earth?

Kritosaurin hadrosaur (Rhinorex condrupus) were herbivorous dinosaurs that lived in the Neslen Formation during the Late Cretaceous period, around 75 million years ago.

When did the Rhinorex become extinct?

Rhinorex condrupus were herbivorous dinosaurs that roamed the Earth during the Late Cretaceous period. The Rhinorex skeleton (fossil) was found in Utah, and we can assume that they lived in North America. They were an Ornithopod species, and it is considered that this species lived until the end of the Late Cretaceous period. They went extinct after the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event.

Where did a Rhinorex live?

Rhinorex condrupus were duck-billed hadrosaurid dinosaurs that lived on land. They were grazing herbivorous dinosaurs.

What was a Rhinorex's habitat?

North Carolina State University and Brigham Young Museum of Paleontology described a hadrosaurid dinosaur that lived in the North American continent. That dinosaur is the Rhinorex condrupus. They lived in the Neslen Formation millions of years ago.

Who did a Rhinorex live with?

Rhinorex condrupus were grazing, herbivorous dinosaurs. It can be assumed that they lived in groups. According to fossil remains, they were plant eaters and because they were herbivores, they were scared of getting killed, so they might have formed herds in order to protect each other.

How long did a Rhinorex live?

There is no exact information available on how long a Rhinorex condrupus dinosaur lived. Average land dinosaurs lived for around 70-80 years, so we can assume the same for Rhinorex dinosaurs.

How did they reproduce?

Rhinorex dinosaurs were terrestrial grazing animals with a big nose. They were reptiles that laid eggs when giving birth. There is no data available on their breeding season or when they used to breed, but it can be assumed that during their breeding seasons, their species gathered together and mated.

Rhinorex Fun Facts

What did a Rhinorex look like?

Rhinorex were dinosaurs with big noses and their fossils were found in the town of Utah. The Rhinorex (hadrosaur) species was present on Earth during the Late Cretaceous period and roamed around the North American continent. The bones and remains that have been studied in the North Carolina State University and Brigham Young Museum of Palaeontology have cleared a lot of mysteries. The Rhinorex was in the family of kritosaurin hadrosaur, meaning they had duckbills. They had a strong and big nose that had a super sense of smell. It was not a whole fossil that was found rather, it was just some bones from its body. The exact size and shape of Rhinorex are not known. They were herbivorous and belonged to the family Hadrosauridae. From the same family belonged the dinosaur Gryposaurus which was very similar to the Rhinorex. If we assume that the Rhinorex and the Gryposaurus had a similar body size, then the Rhinorex was around 29 ft 6 in (9 m) long and had a weight range of more than 3 tons (2721.6 kg). From this weight, we can assume that they had a huge body with a long tail. The huge body was carried by four feet. Each Rhinorex foot was strong and well built. From the fossil, the skull which was saved had a duck-billed mouth.

Rhinorex condrupus were known as king nose because of their big noses.

How many bones did a Rhinorex have?

The bones of the Rhinorex that were excavated were incomplete. The whole skeleton was not there, so it is hard to tell exactly how many bones they had in their body.

How did they communicate?

It is seriously a big mystery. According to the excavated specimen, the Rhinorex was a herbivorous dinosaur. They might have had their signature calls, or they might have communicated through a screeching voice.

How big was a Rhinorex?

The Rhinorex was a herbivorous hadrosaur dinosaur that lived in the Late Cretaceous period. They were assumed to have a huge body with a long tail and four strong feet. They were around 29 ft 6 in (9 m) long and 3 tons (2721.6 kg) heavy.

How fast could a Rhinorex move?

There is no exact answer to this question, but according to the specimen found, they were herbivorous creatures that were more than 3 tons (2721.6 kg) in weight. An animal weighing more than 3 tons (2721.6 kg) can't be a fast runner.

How much did a Rhinorex weigh?

The Rhinorex was a hadrosaur dinosaur that was 29 ft 6 in (9 m) long and had a weight range of more than 3 tons (2721.6 kg).

What were the male and female names of the species?

There are no specific names assigned to the different sexes of this dinosaur.

What would you call a baby Rhinorex?

Like all other baby dinosaurs, baby Rhinorex dinosaurs are also known as hatchlings.

What did they eat?

This hadrosaur dinosaur, the Rhinorex, had a plant-based diet. According to fossils found, they were plant-eating reptiles that mostly ate green plants, fruits, veggies, and other herbivorous food.

How aggressive were they?

They were heavy weight herbivores according to the fossils that have been found. Plant-eating creatures are not generally aggressive in nature unless in danger.

Did you know...

Rhinorex dinosaurs are known as 'king nose' for a specific reason. The Rhinorex was a dinosaur species that had the biggest nose.

Where was the Rhinorex discovered?

The Rhinorex condrupus was discovered by Terry Gates. Terry Gates found this dinosaur in Central Utah, also known as the Neslen Formation, in 1992.

Why is it called Rhinorex?

Rhinorex condrupus was a dinosaur that lived on Earth during the Late Cretaceous period around 75 million years ago. The genus name 'Rhinorex' means 'nose king' or 'king nose'. 'Rhinorex' is divided into two parts, namely 'rhinos' and 'rex'. Rhinos means 'nose' and rex means 'king'. The species name 'condrupus' means 'buried in cliffs' in Latin. 'Rhinorex condrupus' together means 'king of nose buried in cliffs'. They had a big nose and nostrils in general, and the nose had a super sense of smell.
