On April 27, 1955, Eric Schmidt was born in Falls Church, Virginia. His career began as an intern at Bell Labs, and he subsequently became one of the most influential people in the technology industry.
In 1975, Schmidt and Lesk authored Lex, a software program to generate scanners for Unix, a computer operating system. Eric Schmidt served as Novell’s chief executive officer from 1997-2001.

Schmidt was born in Falls Church, Virginia, and was raised in Falls Church and Blacksburg, Virginia. He was born to Eleanor and Wilson Schmidt, who was a professor at Virginia Tech and Johns Hopkins University.
Schmidt attended the Yorktown High School in Arlington County, Virginia. He enrolled in Princeton University, initially as an architecture major, but later, he switched to electrical engineering. He received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree in 1976. Schmidt lived at the International House Berkeley and met his future wife, Wendy Susan Boyle, there.
In 1979, Schmidt earned his master’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, for developing and executing a network called Berkenet, which connected the campus computer center with the CS and EECS departments. In March 2001, Schmidt was recruited to Google’s Board of Directors and became the company’s CEO in August 2001. He is the founder of Innovation Endeavors, an early-stage venture capital firm based in Palo Alto, California. The fund supported companies such as Uber, BillGuard, and Formlabs. Aside from being an accomplished businessman and technologist, Schmidt has written books that have featured on The New York Times bestseller list.
