He was born in Atmore, Alabama. Later on, the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Evander Holyfield was the youngest of his siblings. He started boxing at the age of seven, and he was a winner in the boys' club boxing tournament. This eventually helped him to prepare and qualify for the Junior Olympics at the age of 13.
From the beginning, Holyfield was an amazing boxer. By age 15, he had already become a Southeastern Regional Champion and won the Best Boxer Award. He graduated from Fulton high school in 1980.

Evander Holyfield is best known for his professional boxing. He is the only four-time world heavyweight champion. Holyfield is a former Undisputed Champion in a couple of weight classes, having had the unified WBA, WBC, and IBF titles in cruiserweight, and the WBA, WBC, lineal, and IBF titles in heavyweight. Evander won the WBA title four times. He won a bronze medal in the 1984 Summer Olympics. At the age of 15, he won the Southeastern Regional Champion title and the Best Boxer Award.
1988 was another productive year for Holyfield; he started by becoming the first universally recognized cruiserweight champion. He defeated Lineal and WBC Champion Carlos De León in Las Vegas, and the fight ended after eight rounds.
On October 25, 1990, Holyfield met Buster Douglas, who weighed 246 lb (111.5 kg) at the time. Holyfield was his first title defense. The fight was called 'Battle For the Ages', where Holyfield, who weighed 208 lb (94 kg), won the title of heavyweight champion of the world. He was the new undefeated champion.
In 1995, Mike Tyson began making plans to fight Holyfield. On November 9, 1996, in Las Vegas, Tyson and Holyfield fought. In a knockout loss, Holyfield defeated him.
In the next match that took place in 1997, Tyson pulled the most bizarre act that night, as it was when he bit off Holyfield's ear.
He lost a fight to Nikolai Valuev and was inactive for quite some time. Evander Holyfield made a comeback in 2010. However, Holyfield took early retirement in 2014. He made a comeback with an exhibition boxing match where Vitor Belfort won a technical knockout in the first round. Belfort had to replace Oscar De La Hoya, who got hospitalized due to COVID-19.

In 2015, he did a charity bout with Mitt Romney to help the CharityVision organization. He recently returned to the ring for #Unite4OurFight.
