Freddie Roach was born on March 5, 1960, to Paul Roach and Barabara Roach. His father, Paul Roach, is a former fighter and had won the New England Featherweight championship. His mother, Barabara, was the first female judge in Massachusetts, USA. Freddie has six siblings, four of whom became boxers.
Frederick Steven Roach was born in Denham, Massachusetts, United States. He was raised close by his siblings, Joey Roach and Pepper Roach. They got regular boxing lessons from their father, Paul Roach. Freddie revealed that he was a profuse street boxing fighter in an interview. He remembers fighting in over 300 street fight matches during his teenage years.
He studied at Edmonds Community College in Washington DC before pursuing his boxing career.

Freddie Roach was a leading force in the ‘New England Amateur’ and the ‘AAU Ranks' during his teenage years. He began fighting as a pro lightweight in 1997. Freddie used to train under the American Boxing Trainer, Eddie Futch. He fought in a match in the Boston Garden. All of the three Roach brothers were fighting that night. It was indeed a historic match. While his brothers Joey and Pepper were celebrating their wins in the match, Freddie Roach had lost to Rafael Lopez. He had to fight in two regional matches all over again.
With his advancing career, Freddie Roach became famously known for being tough and being able to take on loads of punches. He started developing and presenting symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. But Freddie refused to retire and continued to box under his father's training.
After losing five out of six fights, Freddie Roach retired at twenty-six.
After his retirement, Roach had taken up various jobs in Las Vegas, such as telemarketing and being a busboy. Therefore, in 1986 he started working under his former boxing trainer Eddie Futch as his assistant. This job, however, was unpaid. He did an excellent job working as Futch’s assistant and worked under him for five years.
Roach was first hired as a boxing trainer by the former boxer and American Actor Mickey Rourke, who had previously given his gym equipment to Roach. After the hiatus from his boxing career, Mickey Rourke returned to boxing to act in drama and action movies. He hired Freddie Roach to train him in Hollywood, California.
Roach and his brother Pepper are the Wild Card Boxing Club owners in Los Angeles. Freddie Roach is regarded as one of the best boxing trainers today. He has trained some of the best boxers such as Amir Khan, Dan Hardy, K.J. Noons, and others.

In 2019, Freddie Roach was a part of a charity in collaboration with Jimmy Kimmel, where the person who bids for the highest amount would get a free training session with Freddie Roach himself. All the proceeds of the charity auction would go to ALS (people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).
