In 1976 he made not such mediocre cartoons for Pacific Search magazine, which were appreciated, and thus began his career as a cartoonist.
He has also worked for a newspaper named The Seattle Times. While working with The Seattle Times, his drawing were under the title Nature's Way.
As his cartoons became popular, he planned to sell comic strips to different newspapers. He also approached the San Francisco chronicle. In 1980 San Francisco Chronicle got into a contract with him, and thus the famous cartoon strip 'The Far Side' came up.
In 1998 he published a cover illustration for a book named 'There's A Hair In My Dirt! A Worm's Story'.
