About Glenn Frey

Glenn Frey, born Glenn Lewis Frey was an American singer, musician, songwriter, and actor.

He was born on November 6, 1948, in the city of Detroit, Michigan. His parents were Edward Frey and Nellie Frey.

He had two siblings, Matthew Frey and Alan Frey. He was raised in Royal Oak, where he studied at the Dondero High School and later graduated from Oakland Community College. He taught himself the basics of playing the piano and guitar at the young age of five.

After graduation, Glenn Frey joined a local band, The Four Of Us, in 1966 and learned to sing harmonies. In 1967, he formed two bands, The Mushrooms, and Heavy Metal Kids, where he met Bob Seger. Seger introduced Glenn to his management team, Hideout Records, and soon, he secured a contract with them.

In 1969, Glenn Frey shifted to Los Angeles and partnered with Longbranch Pennywhistle, together, they were signed by Amos Records and released an album. A year later, he met Don Henley and they were hired by John Boylan, together with Randy Meisner as well as Bernie Leadon and they all played together at Disneyland. While on this tour at Disneyland, they took the chance to form a band of their own, the Eagles, which rose as one of the most successful musical bands in the '70s. Glenn Ford composed and sang most of the band's lead vocals and eventually in 1972, the Eagles released their first album, 'Eagles'.

The Eagles separated in 1980 and Glenn Frey began his solo career. He wrote and performed the soundtrack, 'You Belong To The City' in 1985 and it topped the U.S album charts for a period of 11 weeks. He wrote his own songs during this time they were mainly soundtracks. As a solo artist, he had 12 songs that charted in the U.S Top 100, and on May 8, 2012, he finally released his first solo album.

Glenn Frey first appeared on television in 1984 when he starred in the movie 'Miami Vice.' He appeared in other movies like 'Wiseguy,' 'Nash Bridges' and 'Jerry Maguire' before he took a break from acting in 1994 after the Eagles reunited. He got married twice and had three children before his death in 2016. He won several awards, including Grammys, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during his lifetime. He ultimately passed away on January 18, 2016, at the Columbia University Medical Center due to problems arising in his body from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia.

Glenn Lewis Frey took birth on November 6, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan. He had two siblings, Matthew Frey and Alan Frey, and was raised by his mother, Nellie Frey and her second husband, Edward 'Eddie' Frey, in Royal Oak, in the city of Michigan. Apart from his musical interests, Glenn was a voracious reader and participated actively in athletics. He learned to play the piano and guitar at the tender age of five and developed an interest in the writings of Jack Kerouac. He studied at the Dondero High School and played the trumpet in the school's marching band before he graduated in 1966.

Frey graduated from the Oakland Community College, and soon after, Gary Burrows, the leader of The Four Of Us rock band, offered him a job. In the year 1967, Glenn founded the Mushrooms along with Gary's brother, Jeff Burrows, and his classmates, Ken Bash, Bill Barnes and Doug Gunsch. He later met Bob Seger, joined his band, Hideout Records, and played the acoustic guitar on Seger's single when he was 19. Later in 1967, Glenn Frey pulled together another band, the Heavy Metal Kids, with Jeff Burrows playing the piano, Jeff Alborell on the bass, Lance Dickerson playing drums and Paul Kelcourse as the lead guitar.

In 1971 after he formed the Eagles with Don Henley, Randy Meisner, as well as Bernie Leadon, he wrote most of their lead vocals for their debut album, Eagles like 'Take It Easy,' 'Peaceful Easy Feeling' and 'Witchy Woman.' These singles streamed on the Top-20 singles in the US and Canada and were responsible for the tremendous success of their album, Eagles, which is currently among the top three best-selling albums in the United States. In 1974, the Eagles recruited Don Felder, a guitarist, who helped them record their first No. 1 song in the US and Canada.

In 1976, the Eagles released their most successful album ever, 'Hotel California', and it is one of the best-selling albums in the US. This album also topped charts in some countries like Canada, the UK, New Zealand, and France. The Eagles disbanded in 1980, but they later reunited in 1994 and released a fresh and new album, 'Hell Freezes Over.' Glenn became a solo artist in 1982 and released his first solo album, 'No Fun Aloud.' This well-known album had notable songs like 'The One You Love' and 'I Found Someone.' His other best-performing songs include 'The Heat Is On,' Take It Easy,' New Kid In Town,' and 'Smuggler's Blues.' He released his last album in 2012, winning one Academy Award and releasing five solo albums.

Charity Work

Glenn Frey began his charity work in the '90s when he hosted kids in Colorado every summer. He was the honorary chairman for grand auctions for the Boys and Girls Club of Coachella Valley and supported the Tiger Woods Foundation and the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation. He signed guitars at the Alzheimer's Association and played gigs for the organization, Walden Woods Project. While working with the Eagles as a band, they supported organizations like the City Of Hope, Music For Relief, Precious Paws, and the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center.
