Hironobu Kageyama is a Japanese musical artist and composer. He has written and created the opening theme and other songs for Japanese animations, popularly known as anime, video games, and live-action films or drama productions called tokusatsu. 

Hironobu Kageyama has earned a number of nicknames from his reputation, including ‘Prince of Anime/Tokusatsu Songs’ and ‘Mr. DBZ’ by fans of the anime ‘Dragon Ball Z.’ Some of his popular singles include 'Dark Water' and 'Wild Boy.'

Hironobu Kageyama began his career as an artist in the entertainment industry at 16 when he emerged as the lead singer of the Japanese pop group LAZY. However, the group split in the early ’80s, and Hironobu continued to build his career as a solo artist. He began as the singer and songwriter for various anime theme songs and tokusatsu series before doing video game series. He achieved immense popularity and success in the process. 

Hironobu Kageyama has worked as the singer and songwriter for the opening theme and other soundtracks of various anime and tokusatsu productions, including ‘Dragon Ball Z,’ ‘Dengeki Sentai Changeman,’ ‘Hikari Sentai Maskman,’ ‘Yu Gi Oh!: Duel Monsters GX,’ ‘Saint Selya,’ ‘Gintama: The Final,’ ‘Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199,’ ‘Scrapped Princess,’ ‘Sonic X,’ and the opening theme song of 'Kamen Rider,' a video game with rider gashat, a transformation device similar to a video game catridge. 

As a result of this fame, Hironobu Kageyama was given the nickname ‘Prince of Anime/Tokusatsu Songs,’ and he is still majorly involved in composing and singing for Japanese shows to this day. Also, fans of the anime ‘Dragon Ball Z’ refer to the artist as ‘Mr. DBZ’ because he performed the majority of the anime’s songs. In addition, Hironobu Kageyama is a member and the current leader of the Japanese vocal group and rock band JAM Project, formed in 2000.

Aside from singing, Hironobu Kageyama has also worked as a voice actor for several series, including the tokusatsu series ‘Garo,’ where he lent his voice to the character named Zaruba.

In the early to mid-2000s, Hironobu Kageyama hosted a TV show called ‘Anipara Ongakukan,’ which featured live performances of soundtracks from various anime and tokusatsu productions on the Kids Station Channel. He hosted alongside Masaaki Endoh, Atsuko, Kaori Oda, and Gero before the show was canceled in 2017.
