Horace Grant started his NBA career in 1987 with Chicago Bulls. There he played as a power forward or center. In 1988, he started playing in a starting lineup when Charles Oakley was traded to the New York Knicks, and he became the main rebounder and recognized himself as the Chicago Bulls' third scoring possibility after Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, which formed them as one of the league's best trios. Grant also helped Chicago Bulls to win three consecutive NBA championships in 1991, 1992, and 1993 and locked the third win with a last-second block on Kevin Johnson. During the season 1990-91, Grant started playing with goggles fitted with prescription lenses as he was diagnosed with myopia. He corrected his eyesight through Lasik surgery but continued wearing eyeglasses as he learned that he became an ideal figure for those children who wear eyeglasses.

In 1994, as a free agent, Horace Grant decided to join another NBA team named Orlando Magic which Shaquille O'Neal and Penny Hardaway led. In 1995, on May 5, he made a final basket for his team Orlando Magic and snatched a win from the Boston Celtics. In 1995, due to Grant, Orlando Magic reached the finals, where they were brushed in the four games by the Houston Rockets. He was part of the NBA team Orlando Magic until 1999 and was again part of the team in 2001-2002.

In 1999-2000, he was part of another NBA team named Seattle SuperSonics. In 2000-2001, he was part of another NBA team, the Los Angeles Lakers.
