Tracey has been in CBC television series such as 'Da Vinci's Inquest' and 'Intelligence,' both created by long-time collaborator Chris Haddock, 'The Romeo Section' and 'Continuum,' and the 2013 film 'Man Of Steel' on the part of Ludlow. Tracey began acting when he was 11 years old, in the 1976 picture 'The Keeper', starring Christopher Lee. After a series of tiny child-actor jobs beginning at the age of 11, he received his huge break at the age of 15 when he landed the title role in 'Huckleberry Finn And His Friends,' a 1979 Canadian tv series. After high school, he decided to take a sabbatical from performing and credited a job setting up lights on film sets with teaching him the most about the industry.

Actor Ian Tracey portrayed Andras Vajda J in the film 'Praise Of Older Women' (1978). His other movies include 'Conspiracy Of Silence', 1991, a film based on true events; 'The War Between Us', a 1995 film; 'Free Willy 3: The Rescue', a 1997 film; and 'Rupert's Land', a 1998 film. In 1999, he starred in 'Milgaard,' in which he played David Milgaard. His performance in 'Milgaard' was well received. His previous movies include Kevin Costner's 'Western Open Range' in 2003, 'Desolation Sound' in 2005, 'Prairie Giant: The Tommy Douglas Story' in 2006, 'The Iron Road' in 2007, and 'The Don Cherry Story' in 2010.

His title character in the television series 'Huckleberry Finn And His Friends' made him more popular.

He also was a series regular in the action series, 'Sweating Bullets', and had a recurring role in the American comedy-drama television series 'The Commish'. He is well known for his appearances as Detective Mick Leary in 'Da Vinci's Inquest' series from 1998-2005, in which he appeared in all 91 episodes. Ian Tracey appeared as Jimmy Reardon in the Vancouver-based crime drama tv series named 'Intelligence' and the name of his role in the Canadian supernatural drama television series 'The Collector' was Jimmy. These characters were popular when considering his roles in other series and movies. He appeared as Michael Elliott in the 2005 film 'Desolation Sound.'
