Jake Arrieta was born on March 6, 1986, in Farmington, Missouri.  Previously, he played for the Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies. After completing his formal education, Jake Arrieta entered his career as an athlete.

The Cincinnati Reds selected him in the 31st round of the 2004 drafts, however, he turned the offer down and attended Weatherford Junior College and had his freshman year in 2005. In the 26th round of the 2005 Major League Baseball draft, the Milwaukee Brewers selected Arrieta. However, he chose to transfer and attend Texas Christian University, where he studied sports psychology.

During the 2018 season, Arrieta sustained a meniscus tear and injured his knee. He hid the injury and continued to play the season. Later, he underwent surgery to remove a bone spur in his pitching elbow.

In 2021, Jake Arrieta signed a one-year contract of $4 million with the Chicago Cubs. In the same year, in August, the Chicago Cubs released Arrieta. After four days of his release, Jake Arrieta signed a contract with the San Diego Padres. The contract was for the minor league.

In Beijing, China, during the 2008 Olympics Games, Arrieta won the bronze medal representing the US baseball team. He also won a gold medal at the World University Championship, in 2006, in Havana, representing the US baseball team.

Jake Arrieta started his career as a baseball player during his high school years at Plano East Senior High School. The Cincinnati Reds selected him. As a junior, he was 6-1 with an ERA of 1.611 and 5-4 as a senior with a 1.30 ERA. He turned down the offer by the Cincinnati Reds to attend Weatherford Junior College. He posted a 6-2 win-loss record with an ERA of 3.43. Jake Arrieta was, again, selected by the Milwaukee Brewers during the 2005 Major League Baseball draft. He turned down the offer and transferred to Texas Christian University. He played for the TCU Horned Frogs baseball team during his sophomore and junior seasons. With the McKinney Marshalls, Arrieta participated in the Texas Collegiate League, posting a 4-3 record with an ERA of 1.87.

In 2006, Jake Arrieta led his college baseball team with 14 wins and an ERA of 2.35. After his sophomore year, he was named a Second-Team College Baseball All-American. He also won the Mountain West Conference of the Year. In the same year, he joined the United States national baseball team, winning the World University Baseball Championship in Cuba. His college career set a foundation for his further professional career in baseball.

In the fifth round of the 2007 MLB draft, the Baltimore Orioles selected Jake Arrieta with a signing bonus of $1.1 million. His professional debut was recorded in the Arizona Fall League, after which, he was named a Preseason All-Star. He pitched 16 scoreless innings for the Phoenix Desert Dogs.

Jake Arrieta's major league debut was recorded in 2010 against the New York Yankees at Camden Yards. He recorded a 6-6 with an ERA of 4.66. In 2011, Arrieta won the home opener for the Baltimore Orioles. He played for the Baltimore Orioles from 2010 to 2013.

After four seasons, in 2013, Arrieta was traded to the Chicago Cubs. His debut for the Chicago Cubs recorded him giving up 1 run in 6 innings. After which, he was optioned to the Iowa Cubs. He played for the Chicago Cubs from 2013 to 2017.
