Jeff Van Gundy is a well-known coach in the National Basketball Association. He has been responsible for coaching some of society's most famous athletes in reputed NBA teams such as the Knicks and Houston Rockets throughout his career.

Jeff's coaching career began with the McQuaid Jesuit High School in New York, where he worked after graduating from college. Jeff Van Gundy's coaching career started in 1956 with McQuaid Jesuit High School, New York where he would go on to have a long list of accomplishments! He then became a graduate assistant under Providence College head Rick Pitino before moving onto two other positions - one as an assistant coach under Gordon Chiesa and another timeserving Bob Wenzel at Rutgers. The team named Providence Friars at Providence, a below average team, under the mentorship of Rick advanced to the Final Four of the NCAA Division.
In 1989-90 season he became an assistant coach for Knicks and then later on with Houston Rockets before being promoted to head position full time at both teams! In 1989, Van Gundy became an assistant coach for the New York Knicks. During his tenure as assistant coach here, the Knicks won three Atlantic Division titles and qualified for playoffs yearly. In 1986, he became the head coach at New York Knicks taking over from Don Nelson.
In the 2001-2002 season, he resigned from the head coach position of the New York Knicks and joined Houston Rockets as head coach in 2003. During his first year there, the Houston Rockets qualified for the playoffs for the first time in five years though eliminated by the Los Angeles Lakers. The Houston Rockets lost in the first round of the playoffs again in the second season to the Dallas Mavericks. Van Gundy was fired from Houston Rockets right after the Game 7 loss in the first round of playoffs.
In 2017, Van Gundy headed the senior United States Men’s National Basketball Team at the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup tournament and the qualifiers for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China. When he was fired in 2007, he became a commentator for ESPN; comments and analysis were all that this former player had to fall back on! But it wasn't until 2017 when things took an unexpected turn for him, he became a coach.
