She also performed at the Edinburgh Festival, Scotland. In 2001, she moved from Sydney to Melbourne. After that, in the same year, she released her first EP along with the Regency Records, titled 'Movement Involves Danger.' In 2005, she released another EP with Shiny Records entitled 'Permanent Marker.' In 2006, Jen, along with her band Jen Cloher and the Endless Sea, released her debut album 'Dead Wood Falls.' For her first album, she got nominated for ARIA Music Awards. After this, Jen became a familiar face in the music scene.
In 2009, Jen released her second album entitled 'Hidden Hands.' This album includes the single 'Eden With My Eve.' She went on to tour with Jordie Lane. After that tour, Jen took a long break from music. In 2012, Jen returned and co-founded Milk! Records. She released a duet titled 'Call If You Need Me' the same year. In 2013, she released her third album, titled 'Third Memory.' In August 2013, Jen, along with Liz Stringer and Mia Dyson, released an EP and went on the road and played 40 shows within the country.
In 2016, she celebrated the 10-year anniversary of her first album 'Dead Wood falls' which was released on vinyl. Later they also had a reunion show with the original band members of Jen Cloher and The Endless Sea. It also received good reviews from The Independent, The Guardian, and The Herald Sun. In December 2017, it was proclaimed that Jen would be featured as a guest judge on the Happy Mag's 'Needle in the Hay' vinyl competition.
In 2018, Jen toured some countries, including Europe, the United States of America, and Australia. In 2019, after six years, Jen again collaborated with Liz Stringer and Mia Dyson. In October, they released a self-titled album, which they recorded in eight days in Chicago in the United States of America.
The current band members of Jen are Robert Wrigley – lead guitar (2018- present), Anika Ostendorf – keyboards, guitar, backing vocals (2022–present), Jen Sholakis – drums, backing vocals (2012–present), and Nathalie Pavlovic – bass, backing vocals (2022–present). The former members of the band were Courtney Barnett – lead guitar, backing vocals (2012–2018); Ricky Bradbeer – bass, backing vocals (2018–2022); and Bones Sloane – bass, backing vocals (2012–2018).
The members of Endless Sea were Jen Sholakis – drums (2006–2010, 2016), Ross Calia – piano (2006–2008, 2016), Biddy Connor – violin, musical saw, backing vocals (2008–2010), Michael Hubbard – lead guitar (2006–2010, 2016), Tom Healy – guitar (2008–2010), Andrea Summer – violin, backing vocals (2006–2008, 2016), "Lord" Geoffrey Dunbar – bass (2006–2010, 2016) and Laura Jean – piano, backing vocals (2008–2010).
