Career And Professional Highlights

Best Known For…

Jim is widely recognized for the turmoil that followed his 1996 signing with the Seattle SuperSonics.
The Seattle Supersonics promised Jim McIlvaine a seven-year, $33.6 million free-agent deal in 1996. Seattle fans were disappointed, as was star player Kemp, who had requested a raise after guiding the team to a record 64 wins and its most incredible playoff effort in 17 years, along with a third visit in the Finals. The NBA's collective bargaining agreement (CBA) forbade any modifications to Kemp's deal until October 1997 because he penned a deal extension in 1994.
Despite fan criticism, Jim McIlvaine was influential in the Sonics winning their division in his two seasons with the team. After the 1997 season, Seattle was part of a three-team deal that sent Kemp to the Cleveland Cavaliers in return for Vin Baker of the Milwaukee Bucks, with Terrell Brandon and Tyrone Hill of the Cavaliers moving to Milwaukee.
Jim McIlvaine set career-best in matches (82), minutes (1,477), points per match (3.8), rebounds per match (4.0), as well as steals (0.5) in his debut season with Seattle while also equaling two blocks per match. In his second season in Seattle, he suffered a drop in every main statistical classification. However, he still had career highs in most of them. McIlvaine was eventually transferred to New Jersey in 1998 in exchange for Don MacLean and Michael Cage, primarily to clear salary-cap space.
Jim McIlvaine ended his mark with the New Jersey Nets, where he played three injury-plagued seasons. McIlvaine had his finest season since departing Seattle in 1999–2000, playing 66 matches, but injury troubles and diminishing performance troubled him until the Nets took his deal following the 2000–01 NBA season. In 401 career matches, McIlvaine averaged 2.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.71 blocks per match.

What awards has Jim McIlvaine won?
