He was one of 12 referees selected to work in the NBA Finals held in 2006 between the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks. This was one of the first finals of Ken's career. Ken's first game was Game 3 in the championship series. During the 2010–11 season, Ken called five technical fouls during a game between the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves over the course of 10 seconds. As of the 2017–18 NBA season beginning, Ken Mauer has officiated in 1,717 regular seasons.
