Kusumagraj is best known as a novelist, playwright, and short stories writer.

Kusumagraj has written three novels, eight volumes of short stories, 16 volumes of poems, 18 plays,  seven volumes of essays, and six one-act plays. He has written all these wonderful things only in five decades. 

Kusumagraj is popular with his pen name Kusumagraj. His work, like the 'Vishakha', is today considered the masterpiece of Indian literature. He was the recipient of the Natsamrat, Sahitya Akademi Award in Marathi in 1974. Kusumagraj tragedies played an important role in boosting the Marathi theater of the period.

Kusumagraj also edited certain academic textbooks for school students. The turning point in the career of Kusumagraj was in 1942. He has written all his poems, stories, and many more other things at his own expense. 

Kusumagraj was the President of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan held at Margao in 1964. People celebrate his birthday as Marathi Bhasha Din every year. He helped establish the 'Godavari Gaurav' to felicitate the work of many individuals involved in such fields in 1992. 

Kusumagraj wished to provide a platform to different sections of people not only in literature but also in painting, sculpting, drama, cinema, sports, dance, music, social work, science, and other art forms.

Kusumagraj was the president of the prestigious Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan of 1964, held in Margao, Goa. He has been honored with numerous awards. There is also a star named followed by his name in 1996.

For the well-being of the less privileged people, he has worked a lot. In Samyukta Maharashtra Movement, we have found him as a member. He has also done numerous works for Adivasi communities. 

Not only that, he has made various activities and built libraries for the children. He has built the organization Kusumagraj Pratisthan. For equal opportunities and the growth of all communities, he has shown his fondness for them. In Nashik, he has made the Lokahitawādi Mandal. For adult education and providing medical help, he often called for numerous sports and cultural camps. 

He was a student of H.P.T College when he started his career. Ratnakar magazine has helped him to publish his poems. Even at the age of 20 years, he has taken the vow to solve the discrimination among the community-categorized people and raised his voice. Not only that to help those people to enter the Kalaram Temple in Nashik, but he has also shown his full support to all those people and participated in the nonviolent movement.

In 1936 he has associated with Godavari Cinetone Ltd. And for the movie 'Sati Sulochana' he played the role of Lord Lakshmana, but unfortunately, the film failed to receive recognition and admiration from the audiences. The storyline and the screenplay of the film 'Sati Sulochana' were written by him. 

As a journalist, Kusumagraj has worked with Dainik Prabhat, Saarathi, Navayug, Saptahik Prabha, and Dhanurdari.

Many of his masterpieces and writings were highly inspired by famous poets worldwide. And he has taken inspiration to write poems from Moliere, Maurice Maeterlinck, Oscar Wilde, and Shakespeare. Kusumagraj has gained his position as a poet and writer among the literati. 

In the Marathi film industry, Kusumagraj has also worked as a lyricist, and he has taken the inspiration to write a play from 'Othello'. From Shakespeare's 'King Lear', he has taken the inspiration to write his masterpiece play the 'Natsamrat'.
