Their first superhit album was 'Mad About Him, Sad About Him, How Can I Be Glad Without Him Blues.' Dinah Shore recorded this song for Columbia Records. Larry also served in the US Army Air Forces during World War 11. In 1945, he left the service and returned to New York. He collaborated with the famous singer Charles.

They collaborated with the American bandleader Eddie De Lange and wrote the country/pop album 'Along the Navajo Trail.' Other blockbuster single tracks he wrote included 'May You Always, 'Long Train with a Red Caboose to Carry My Blues Away,' and 'I Tipped My Hat.' His biggest hit single was 'I.O.U.,' co-written by Jimmy Dean.

Larry also performed the original version of the 'Scooby-Doo' theme song.
