On June 1, 1978, Charles Lincoln Neal III was given birth by Sue Capps and Charles Lincoln Neal II in Boone Trail, North Carolina, and was popularly known as Link Neal. When Link was only two years old, his parents divorced. His mother married her high school boyfriend, Jimmy Capps, and settled in Buies Creek, North Carolina. On September 4, 1984, on the first day of the first class in Elementary School at Buies Creek, North Carolina, he met Rhett McLaughlin, his YouTube channel partner on Rhett & Link. Link Neal attended the same elementary and middle school as Rhett, Harnett Central High School.

At the age of 14, Rhett and Link crafted a script, 'Gutless Wonders'. They started working on a movie based on it, but they never finished the movie after shooting a few scenes. After a few years, they recited that screenplay on 'Good Mythical Morning'. In high school, both of them made a play of 25 minutes on 'Oedipus Rex'. Rhett became Oedipus, and Link worked for his father. They were also the lead singers of a punk rock band in high school. A blood pact was signed by them, pledging to do something awesome and big together in the future.

In his early life, they were both accepted to North Carolina State University and stayed in the same room. Tim and Greg were their college friends who joined their apartment. In 2000, Link graduated from North Carolina State University in Industrial Engineering. After graduation, Link worked at IBM for a while before leaving to make full-time videos with Rhett on their YouTube channel. Four of them have many memories together as their camping trips, near to death experience, exploring the river Cape Fear, and their first job.

The Independent Film Channel broadcasts the television show 'Rhett & Link: Commercial Kings'. It shows how Rhett & Link had traversed through the country, creating local advertisements for small businesses. The ten-part docu-comedy is an adaptation of 'I Love Local Commercials', their popular web series.

On 2019, it got revealed that the SMOSH brand was purchased by Rhett & Link (SMOSH Pit, ElSmosh, SMOSH Games, and SMOSH) due to the collapse of Defy Media, the former parent firm of the channel. Ian Hecox, Smosh's co-founder, revealed that the channel would have complete creative freedom to start its own podcast, 'SmoshCast', under the Mythical Entertainment brand. They apparently compensated $10 million for SMOSH.
