He covered the election day report that won NBC's News & Documentary Emmy Award for its 2008 Election Night coverage. He investigated how Barack Obama's victory affected young people in his report.

Luke Russert started working on Capitol Hill for NBC News as a congressional correspondent covering the House of Representatives in May 2009. Additionally, the broadcaster covered Hurricane Irene for NBC News in 2011.
