Sean Lester Rooks was an American professional basketball player born on September 9, 1969, in New York, United States of America, and died of heart disease on June 7, 2016, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Sean Rooks had already retired in 2012 and was looking for a job. He was an assistant coach from 2007 to 2016 for Bakersfield Jam (2007-2008), New Mexico Thunderbirds (2010-2011), Sioux Falls Skyforce (2012), Phoenix Suns (2012-2013), Sioux Falls Skyforce (2013-2016) and when he died, he was an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers (2014-2016).

In 2016, he wanted to join the New York Knicks and interviewed for a job with team president Phil Jackson. On June 7, 2016, while Rooks was having dinner inside a Philadelphia restaurant, he collapsed and died because of cardiovascular illness. His sudden and tragic death stunned the basketball world and everyone who knew him personally.

Then as a player, he played for Atlanta Hawks (1996), Los Angeles Hawkers (1996-1999), again for Dallas Mavericks (1999-2000), Los Angeles Clippers (2000-2003), New Orleans Hornets (2003-2004), Orlando Magic (2004), Unicaja Malaga (2005), Joventut Badalona (2005) and Los Angeles Slam (2011-2012). Rooks played 12 seasons in the NBA between 1992 and 2004. After retiring, Rooks moved into coaching and served as an assistant coach in the NBA Development League. He served for the Bakersfield Jam (2007-2008), the New Mexico Thunderbirds (2010-2011), and the Sioux Falls Skyforce (from March 2012). In 2012, Rooks joined the Phoenix Suns' player development staff and resigned in January 2013.
