Thierry Daniel Henry is a retired French professional football player and one of the greatest players in the history of the English Premier League.
This small-town footballer grew to be an all-time leading international goal scorer for club Arsenal and the France National Team. With 175 goals in the Premier League, Henry ranks seventh in the League's history as of today.
He is currently a French football coach and assistant coach for the Belgium National Team until December 2022, having just played in the Qatar World Cup.
During his eight-year stint with the Gunners starting in 1999, he scored an unmatched 226 goals. He was named the PFA Players' Player of the Year twice, and the PFA Team of the Year six consecutive times. In 2003, Henry was runner-up for the Ballon d'Or, and in 2003-2004, he was runner-up for the FIFA World Player of the Year award.
Henry joined FC Barcelona in 2007 for a $20.8 million fee (£16 million). He was a part of Barcelona under the then manager, Pep Guardiola, in 2009, winning six record trophies. Thierry Daniel Henry was born on August 17, 1977 in the Les Ulis suburb of Paris, France. His father, Antoine, is from Guadeloupe, and his mother, Maryse, is from Martinique. He has two brothers, Dimitri and Willy.
Henry's father encouraged him to play football and would take him to local matches. The potential that Henry exhibited as a seven-year-old prompted Claude Chezelle to select him to the local club CO Les Ulis. He then played for the under-15 team for Viry-Chatillon.
It was around the same time that his parents separated. Henry’s mother took him to Orsay and enrolled him into the Alexander Fleming School. In 1990, impressed by the six goals Henry scored leading to a 6-0 win in a match, he was asked to join AS Monaco, the French National Team, without a trial. He was then elected into the French Football Federation’s Clairefontaine Academy.
