In 2009, Alan Pulido made his official debut in the SuperLiga event, where he took part and played for 90 minutes against CHIVAS USA. In the drawn match with Chicago Fire, Tigres won the match in a penalty shootout. In the Apertura tournament, Pulido's first professional season, as Tigres defeated Santos Laguna, he won the first league title.

In the 2012 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament which took place in the United States, Alan Pulido took the opening goal in a match that ended in a win over Trinidad and Tobago. After two days, he scored three goals to win the match against Honduras. Alan Pulido was tied with Marco Fabián when he scored his fifth goal in the semi-finals against Canada. In 2014, he made a hat-trick against South Korea, which helped Mexico win the match. On April 2, he scored the second goal in a 2-2 friendly match against the United States at the University of Phoenix Stadium. In June 2014, Pulido was called up to the Mexican squad to participate in the World Cup in Brazil, but he never appeared in any of the matches.

Pulido revealed that he was a free agent as his contract with Tigres UANL has expired, and he discovered the interests of European clubs, as well as Olympiacos from the Greek side, but the club authorities ensured that a contract extension was signed by Pulido, which will not allow him to leave the club till June 2016. Olympiacos won the league stage with six matches to go, 21 points ahead of second-place AEK Athens when Pulido scored the third goal in the win over Veria. Pulido returned to Mexico in August 2016 to play for Guadalajara for a reported $7.15 million, making him Guadalajara's most expensive acquisition at that moment.

Guadalajara won the Clausura Copa MX final in 2017 after defeating Monarcas Morelia in a penalty shoot-out in which he scored. Tigres UANL, his former team, competed in the Clausura tournament. At Estadio Universitario, Pulido scored the first goal in the first leg of a tie. He also made the first goal of the game again in the return leg at Estadio Chivas, which was named Goal of the Tournament, with the final scoreline being 2-1 in the favor of Guadalajara, which meant they were champions for the first time since the Apertura 2006 and won their first Double since the 1969-1970 season. He was selected to the Clausura's Best XI as well as the tournament's most valuable player.

In 2019, a piece of news came that Alan Pulido will sign a contract of four-year with the soccer team Sporting Kansas City as a designated player for a whopping amount of $9.5 million, the most expensive transfer in the club's history. In February 2020, Pulido won his debut match against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Due to a hamstring injury, Pulido returned to the squad on 3 October and won over Houston Dynamo, which earned him MLS Player of the Week honors.
