In 1998 Nejad decided to drop out of Berkeley to pursue poker full-time after years of being a recreational player. Before making it as a successful high-limit cash game player, he worked as a dealer and prop player.

He returned to television in 2002, anchoring an MTV pilot about video games. Later, Nejad met Mori Eskandani, the then tournament director of Fox Sports Network's 'Poker Superstars' at the PartyPoker Million Cruise in 2003. Eskandani also became the future producer of Poker After Dark and the National Heads-Up Poker Championship. In 2004, Eskandani recruited Nejad for the Poker Superstars event as the ceremony master, marking the start of a lengthy televised poker partnership. Nejad has also appeared three times as a player on 'Poker After Dark's' commentator week. He finished sixth in his first appearance. He secured the position in the second, and in the third, he came in fifth. Ali Nejad was a co-commentator at the ultimate poker challenge series alongside Chad Brown, an eminent spokesperson and host in poker tournaments.
