In Jamaican history, Andrew is the youngest person to serve as the prime minister of Jamaica and be reelected. Andrew was also the first prime minister born in Jamaica following the country's 1962 declaration of independence.

Andrew served as a member of parliament for the Saint Andrew West Central seat and then as his nation's minister of education.
