Billy Vera was born on May 28, 1944. Billy Vera was born in Riverside, California, and was named after his father. Bill McCord, his father, worked on the staff of NBC in New York as an announcer. His mother, Ann Ryan, worked as a backup singer in the Ray Charles Singers band and sang on record and television with Perry Como. In Hartsdale, NY, Billy grew up and went to school at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, graduating high school from Archbishop Stepinac High School.

Though a youngster from Riverside, Billy Vera always wanted to make it big as a singer and songwriter. His debut single in 1962, 'My Heart Cries,' was well-received in the Northeast, while 'All My Love,' which he wrote himself, was well-received in Texas and Louisiana. While 'Make Me Belong To You,' a year later, was a summer hit for Atlantic Records.
'Storybook Children,' a duet with Judy Clay, spawned more success for Billy Vera in 1967. They followed up with 'Country Girl-City Man' and performed to standing ovations at Harlem's Apollo Theater.
The '70s were difficult until Billy's song, 'I Really Got The Feeling,' by Dolly Parton, reached number one on the country charts. Billy later moved to Los Angeles and formed Billy Vera & the Beaters in 1979. The band recorded the chart hit 'I Can Take Care Of Myself' written by Billy for Alfa Records in 1981. Vera co-produced three Lou Rawls albums for Blue Note Records, including 'At Last,' which debuted at number one on the Billboard jazz charts.
In 1985, during a show of The Beaters, a producer of the TV show 'Family Ties' happened to be in the audience and heard 'At This Moment.' So, the song was used as a backdrop for romantic interludes in the show. Viewers loved the song, and in 1986, 'By Request: The Best Of Billy Vera & The Beaters' was released. On its re-release, 'At This Moment' became number one, reaching the top in January 1987.
He featured in one episode of 'Wiseguy' and had several additional parts on shows including 'Baywatch,' 'Boy Meets World,' and a regular role as Duke on 'Beverly Hills, 90210.' These positions led to him singing theme songs for TV shows, including 'Empty Nest' and 'The King Of Queens.' He also composed the theme song for 'Roomies.' He composed the theme song for the Dinah Manoff-starring television show 'Empty Nest.' He released the album 'Something Like Nothing Before' in 2002. His newest album, 'TIMELESS,' is now available wherever fine music is sold. Billy's radio show, 'Billy Vera's Rock'n'Roll Party,' led him to become a Voiceover Artist. He has also lent his voice to Cartoon Network cartoons.
