In 1996, he participated in the New York pro tour, which was the first pro tour. There he joined the junior division. He won the Grand Prix in Toronto. After that, he achieved great success when he qualified for the Pro Tour Chicago in 1997. The others who made it to the top eight of the Toronto Grand Prix worked with each other on the Wizards of the Coast, including Matt Place, Mike Turian, and Erik Lauer.

He also participated in the same year in the Pro Tour Los Angeles 1997-1998 season. There he came up in the top 64. He returned in the Pro Tour Chicago 2000 and made it into the top eight.
