Carl McCoy is a founding member of the gothic rock band, Fields of the Nephilim. He was the lead vocalist, composer, musician, and lyric writer from 1984-1991 and recorded many albums with the band. McCoy left Fields of the Nephilim to form a new band called The Nefilim in 1992. In 1996, he and his band, The Nefilim, released their debut album and one single. From 2003 onwards, Carl McCoy has been recording with Fields of the Nephilim, along with his new band The Nefilim, and releasing albums.

Carl McCoy also works as a graphic artist and owns a design company named Sheerfaith. Sheerfaith produces artwork and animations, and also provides sound production, graphic design, and connected creative services. Sheerfaith has also been accountable for a number of different bits of artwork and graphic design for Fields of the Nephilim and Nefilim releases. Sheerfaith has also shaped artwork for other projects, such as for the Storm Constantine book 'Hermetech' and Andrew Collins' '21st Century Grail'.

Carl McCoy had a guest appearance in the horror film 'Hardware' which was written and directed by his friend Richard Stanley and released in 1990.
