Childhood And Education

Caroline Bouvier Kennedy is a diplomat who was born in New York City on November 27, 1957. She is the eldest daughter of John F. Kennedy, the former President of the United States, and Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. She had a younger brother, John Jr., as well as a newborn brother, Patrick, who died when he was still a baby. Caroline spent the first years of her life in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. Her father was elected the 35th President of the United States when she was a young child, and the family then moved into the White House.

She attended kindergarten lessons set up by her mother at the White House, rode around on her pony, Macaroni, and received several gifts from foreign dignitaries. Her father died shortly before her sixth birthday. The family departed the White House two weeks later and returned to Georgetown. They eventually relocated to a Manhattan penthouse apartment.

Robert F. Kennedy, her uncle, became a father figure in her life when her father died. When Robert died, Jacqueline Kennedy tried to safeguard her children by marrying Aristotle Onassis, a Greek shipping millionaire, and moving out of the country. Caroline disliked her stepfather, and at Jacqueline's request, another one of her uncles, Ted Kennedy, became her godfather. President Nixon invited her back to the White House in 1971 to see the official portrait of her father.

In 1975, Aristotle died, and she attended his funeral in Skorpios, Greece. Later that year, while she was visiting London to complete a year-long art course at Sotheby's auction house, she very narrowly escaped a car bomb attack. She attended Manhattan's private girls' schools before graduating from Concord Academy in Massachusetts in 1975. Kennedy graduated from Radcliffe College of Harvard University with a Bachelor's degree in 1980 and from Columbia Law School with a degree in law in 1988. She went on to work as a research assistant at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Film and Television Department in New York after graduation.
