Caroline McWilliams lived and grew up in Barrington, Rhode Island. During her lifetime, she starred in various television series and sitcoms. 

Caroline McWilliams was born into the family of Joseph McWilliams and Patti McWilliams. Her sibling were–Patti McWilliams (Marge Mount), Norma McWilliams Liedtke, and Kelly-Jo Mcwilliams Dvareckas. On April 29, 2022, Norma Liedtke died unexpectedly at 79. 

The plays ‘Let's Get a Divorce’, ‘You Haven't Changed a Bit and Other Lies', and ‘The Smoke and Ice Follies’ were among McWilliams' credits as a director.

On February 11, 2010, Caroline McWilliams, a successful actress and director, passed away quietly at her Los Angeles home. The cause of her death was documented to be multiple myeloma–cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell.

McWilliams appeared on television in every era from the '60s to the early 2000. From 1969 until 1975, she frequently appeared on 'Guiding Light' as Janet Mason Norris. She played the role of a prostitute on ‘Barney Miller’ in 1977 who married an immigrant for money to help him stay in the country.

She played the role of Janet Mason on the daytime soap, ‘Guiding Light,’ from 1969-1975, which served as her breakthrough performance in terms of her career. Soon after, she landed one of her best roles in the primetime TV comedy 'Soap', which parodied soap operas (1977). She then took on a whole new character role when requested to join 'Benson', a ‘Soap’ (1977) series spinoff (1979).

In 1978, she featured in nine episodes of the second season of 'Soap'. She also made an appearance in the show after 'Benson' debuted in 1979. She stayed on 'Benson' until 1981; the plot indicated that her character was moving away with her spouse. She played the character of LuAnn Pruit on 'Beverly Hills 90210'. And her role was regarded as being memorable in Beverly hills.

She performed for the American Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Connecticut, as well as the New York Shakespeare Festival. She appeared in ‘The Rothschilds,’ ‘Boccaccio,’ and the Broadway revival of ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ in 1975.

She played Clair Pritchard, the ghostly wife, in the brief comedy series ‘Nearly Departed’ in 1989.

She featured in 'Cass Malloy' in 1982, a CBS sitcom television pilot that aired as a one-time but unfortunately did not go on to become a regular series. However, it acted as the inspiration for 'She's the Sheriff', which featured Suzanne Somers and ran in first-run syndication from 1987-1989.

In the two prominent motion pictures, ‘White Water Summer’ (1987) and ‘Mermaids' (1990), McWilliams played the roles of Virginia Block and Carrie respectively.
