Cheryl Burke went to a typical primary school before graduating in 2002 from Menlo-Atherton High School. Burke began her ballet instruction when she was four years old. Burke's mother discovered after a few years that Cheryl Burke was no longer interested in ballet. As a result, when she was ten years old, she took her to a ballroom complete.

Cheryl Burke debuted on television in 2006 as 'Shannon,' a nurse, in the episode 'Loosely Ballroom' of the Disney Channel sitcom 'The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody.' She later appeared on 'Smallville' as a dancer. Burke won two consecutive seasons of 'DWTS,' one in season two (January 2006) and the other in season three. (September 2006). In the first, she collaborated with '98 Degrees' member Drew Lachey, and in the second, she collaborated with retired football player Emmitt Smith.
From December 19, 2006, until February 11, 2007, she and Lachey reunited for the 'Dancing With The Stars' tour. In the fourth season, Cheryl Burke was paired with Hollywood actor Ian Ziering (March 2007). In the semi-finals, the two were eliminated. She teamed up with Lachey once more for the 24-city summer tour, which ran from June 20 to July 24, 2007. For season five (September 2007), Burke's 'DWTS' partner was Las Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton. On October 9, 2007, they were eliminated.
