Best Known For…

Chip Kelly's coaching career began in 1990 when he was a secondary and special team football coach, coaching the freshman team of Columbia University. The next year he became the outside linebackers and the strong safeties coach. In 1992, he was the running backs coach of the University Of New Hampshire. He was returning as coach to his New Hampshire, his alma mater. He temporarily left his alma mater to become defensive coordinator for Johns Hopkins University. He returned for three seasons from 1994 - 1996 to plan and perfect a zone blocking scheme for New Hampshire University's Jerry Azumah. From 1997 - 1998, he was an offensive line coach.

Chip Kelly was offensive coordinator for the New Hampshire varsity team from 1999 - 2006. He was named College Assistant Coach Of The Year by Gridiron Club of Greater Boston in 2005.

Earlier, he was appointed offensive coordinator of the Oregon Ducks in 2007. As their head coach, he coached them for their BCS games in all four seasons. Apart from their Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl, he also coached them for BCS national championship. Under his tutelage as offensive coordinator, they led the Pac-10 in scoring. They also became the highest-scoring team in Oregon Football history. He perfected the spread offense attack, which turned out to be a sure-shot formula for a win. In 2009, the Ducks grabbed attention after an upset win where they trounced USC Trojans in October. He became the first Pac-10 coach to win a championship in the first season, a win that qualified the Ducks for the Rose Bowl for the first time. Though they lost in the finals, football coach Kelly won the Pac-10 Coach Of The Year award.

In 2013, the University of Oregon suspended all football activities pending an investigation into alleged football scouting services by NCAA when Kelly was head coach. Kelly received an 18-month penalty, and it would seem as though his run as the head coach was at an end. But proving detractors wrong, he was coaching in the NFL for the next four years.

In early October, the Ducks found form and were predicted to be ranked first by USA Today and Associated Press. The predictions did not fail, and they sailed home, beating Oregon State Beavers in December. That season the Ducks stood at the number two spot, all thanks to their football coach, Chip Kelly.

Chip Kelly was the football coach with NFL Philadelphia Eagles from 2013 - 2015. As a head coach in the first season, history repeated itself, and he turned around the team's fortunes; and in his first season with them, they saw victory. By 2015, the Eagles suffered a heavy loss due to bad decisions in buying players, and Chip Kelly was fired.

In 2016, he joined the San Francisco 49ers as their head coach and was their third coach. In true Chip Kelly style, the 49ers defeated the Los Angeles Rams in the first game of the one season he was in the 49ers. Then started a losing streak of 13 games. When the team lost to Seahawks, Chip Kelly's run with them was as good as over.

In 2018, he joined UCLA Bruins and has been there until now. Chip Kelly was their head football coach. Unlike the previous trends, which saw the team he was in winning the year he joined, the Bruins started with a defeat. That was a first for Chip Kelly. In 2019 when the Bruins started with a 0-3 loss, it gave Chip Kelly the worst start he could have had as the UCLA head coach. Soon after, Bruins played Washington State, and Kelly's and the team's fortunes turned. The Bruins went on to defeat Arizona in the Rose Bowl.

Charity Work

Chip Kelly is said to run several charity functions along with his long-time friend Mike Zamarchi in the New Hampshire area, but not much information is available about these.
